Thank you to Meg from Swiss Kin for my first blog award: The Versatile Blogger Award.
This award comes with some rules, so here they are:
- Thank the person who gave you the award
- Tell 7 things about yourself (in your blog)
- Pass the award along to 10 other blogs who you have recently discovered & you think are fantastic
- Contact the bloggers you’ve picked & let them know about the award
So, again, thank you Meg!
Seven things about me
meh. I always hate these things. Didn’t I leave corporate so I wouldn’t have to do this…
- I am easily distracted by shiny things
- I don’t like The Wizard of Oz and have never watched the entire thing. And never will. bah.
- Born and raised in Colorado and I don’t ski.
- When I start reading a book I don’t stop until I’m done. Family can just fend for themselves thankyouverymuch.
- Dog person.
- In college, worked the Friday night shift in the library by choice. geek.
- Degree in college was biology, graduate coursework in evolutionary genetics, and professionally I ended up working for a large software company in their publishing division. Guess that’s versatile. Did I mention the shiny distractions thing?
There you go, now you know more about me.
Blogs I follow
Hum, says ‘10’ in the rules, but I’m not a good rule follower so there may be more or less here (in no particular order). Note that links here will open up in a new window cuz that’s how I roll.
Patriotcast
(http://patriotcast.wordpress.com/)
What if our ancestor’s tweeted? Jason Phelan has undertaken the task of tweeting the American Revolution in ‘real’ time. There are actually several ways to follow: twitter, facebook, and blog.
From the Facebook description: PatriotCast is a historical online reenactment of the American Revolution. For eight years it will give a day by day account of the War.
I’m in awe of this undertaking.
I Look Both Ways
The next time you want to freak yourself out and swear to never put anything online. ever. Go visit Linda Criddle’s blog. OK, so it won’t make you run away and hide forever (probably). Linda is an online safety expert and vocal advocate and her message is all about being informed. Know what you, and your spouse, partner, kids, friends, kid’s friends, etc are putting out there and make informed decisions. Applicable especially to us genealogists? Oh yea.
The Anti 9 to 5 Guide
(http://www.anti9to5guide.com/)
Michelle Goodman is my freelancing beacon, guru, ninja—you get the idea (and I’m sure she’ll mentally edit this as she reads it). I’ve had the honor of working with Michelle IRL and she’s awesome. From her blog you can link to any of the number of columns she writes, so whether you are a freelancer, solopreneur, or still in corporateland, there is probably something for you.
WWdN: In Exile
(http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/)
Wil Wheaton. Yes, he’s an actor. But more importantly, he writes a great blog that covers all things geek, the creative process, and working to be the best person you can be in this crazy world. In reading this blog I’ve laughed, snorted, face-palmed, cried, and been inspired. Especially by this post: Get Excited and Make Things, in which a gauntlet is thrown down and Yoda is quoted. The inspiration for my little corner of the blogosphere you’re visiting right now and who knows what else in the future.
Inspiring Genealogists
Getting a bit wordy here, so group intro for these ladies. All three are young(er), writing about genealogy, and bringing great perspective to the table. They juggle their interests, blog, and life and each one makes me think when I read what they’ve written. Thank you!

Wrapping up
Well, I managed to get seven blogs in; some versions of this award said 15 so I’m not feeling too bad about not hitting 10. Thanks again Meg, it was wonderful to have a reason to revisit these blogs and remember again why I enjoy them so much.
And Happy Friday to all!
Of course I tried to figure out the genealogy of this award, but was quickly stymied by broken links and missing attributions. It wasn’t unlike trying to trace some female lines I know…
